Dear Cousin, I received your letter this noon was very glad to hear from you. Have nothing else to do so thought I am going to answer it right away. The afternoons are awful long here on Sundays. I am home in my tent. It is pretty cold here the last two days again. I was to two masses today, have nothing else to do on Sundays. We have stoves in the KC hall now. The first was outside on the drill ground. It was pretty cold out there. We had five masses here xmas . One was at 12 o'clock in the morning, already there were a lot to confession. I was to confession up town. They called up and ordered cars to take some to town and go to confession. We got back it was about eleven o'clock so we waited and went to the 12 o'clock mass There were a lot in first mass. Yes, I would say the Santa Claus was good to me. I got a lot of stuff from him. Ha ha. We didn't drill last Monday don't think we will drill tomorrow again. Just lay around that is all we do on them holidays. We had turkey for Christmas . Each one got a package from the Red Cross. There wasn't much in mine but just a little candy and a handkerchief. I got a letter from Robert Weidner the other day. He is at Little Rock, Arkansas, Camp Pike. He don't like it at all. Him and his brother Harry are both in the same Co. they don't like it at all, the way he wrote. Nothing but hills and stumps they got there. They couldn't even go to church xmas. Their Co. is under quarantine. They have measles, Scarlet fever, diphtheria, spinal fever, and everything. We had a few cases here too but they are soon good again. That is the first time I heard that Jo Hertel is in the Army too. I suppose he was drunk again when he enlisted. He will feel sorry when he is in awhile. Walter Weidner enlisted too, I heard. I suppose he got tired waiting. The way the papers around here say the war seems to be over soon. Let us hope anyhow. This is some life I tell you. They took a fellow in the guard house this last week. He stole some money they said. We signed the payroll last night again. They might give me 31 dollars too much again. I guess they will look out this time. I don't want anything that don't belong to me either. I think I wrote you about it. That was pretty good. Don't know of anymore news, so I will close. I am wishing you all a Happy New Year of Peace. I am, as ever, Cousin Bernard
