Dear Cousin Josephine,

I received your letter yesterday was very glad to hear of you. I am all well and hope the same of you.
We are having quite cold weather here now. We had a rain last Fri night. After the rain it sure did turn cold in them tents. We are not drilling today it is too muddy. It was raining almost all night so we have a day off, but it ain't very nice to sit around in that cold tent.
I guess we are going to get a stove this afternoon. Then it will be better. We got our O.D. suit the other day. I am glad we got them. I believe we would freeze if we wouldn't. Each one gets two suits. We have to turn in our other suits-those we had first. We have enough clothes now. I got an overcoat too again, and each one has three suits woolen underwear we got on. We got our pay the other day. They gave me 30 dollars too much. Don't you think that's going some?
I gave it back again. The captain said that's very nice of me. I guess a lot of them wouldn't gave it back , but I don't want anything what don't belong to me. A lot of fellows said don't say nothing--they said, " I wish…", they said, "I wish they would gave me too much." I don't think that they would found out that they gave too much. I don't think that we can go home for Christmas. I sure would like to go and see you once again. You asked me in your letter what they would do by inspection. We have to take our bunk out and lay our bedclothes all out nice and all our other clothes to see if it is all clean and to see if it is all our own. They are pretty strict now. Don't hear much about stealing no more They are getting after them fellows. I heard a fellow got robbed in a other Co. They took pocketbook and everything. He had 35 dollars in it--that was worthwhile. They never took anything on me yet except my fork. We had mass out in the field last Sunday. Our hall is getting too small. There are more in mass every Sunday. We have a nice priest here.
This is all the news for this time,
Will close with love to all.
I remain your Cousin Bernard"
