Description

One (1) round faced metal water gauge attached to wooden square plaque (16" x 23.5"), with metal title plaque and cardboard label attached. The small brass nameplate reads: "Graver, Graver Tank & MFG CO. INC., East Chicago, Indiana, Serial No. 49150." The gauge is round and made of black metal with a metal brass spout on the bottom side. It has a glass covering with white background inside and black number readings. There are two metal arrows, a red and black one. The gauge is nailed down to the wooden plaque. Marks on the inside of the gauge include: "1850 Ashcraft USA; 0-100 PSIG, F.T. WATER".

The cardboard label attached reads: "Pressure gauge taken from original reservoir No. 1 of Buffalo Grove Utility Company. The pressure gauge and brass nameplate were installed in 1958 to service the first homes with central water systems. Later reservoir No. 1 became the village of Buffalo Grove well No. , is now located at Raupp Boulevard and Lake-Cook Road. Donated to the Buffalo Grove Historical Society, February 1983." Original B.G. Utility Co. was owned by Al Frank (now of Lake Forest, IL) who was also the developer of the first subdivision homes in B.G. Gauge known as "Rudy Horcher gauge".

The back of the plaque has remanents of a newspaper attached.
