How Are Donations Used?

Donated items could end up on exhibit, like in our Weidner General Store, c. 1910

Objects and photos help us research life in the past. This photo from 1909 tells us what the Weidner General Store actually looked like! It is the building on the left.

You have just donated some old photos, books, and a few outfits to the Raupp Museum - what happens next?

The Raupp Museum is dedicated to preserving Buffalo Grove’s heritage and sharing the community’s history with everyone. Our collection of object, photos, and historic documents are important for us to complete this mission. While we do not guarantee that your objects will be on display, they are important to preserving local history and allowing us to learn more about our local community.

Some ways that your objects may be used include:

    • Exhibitions - The Museum has 2-3 temporary exhibitions a year and continually changes out exhibits in our main gallery to showcase more of our collection and history. In addition, we have an online archive with featured exhibitions that are different from our on-site exhibits.

    • Research - Collections provide a valuable resource for museum and external research. The Museum staff use objects to learn more about local history and build exhibits and educational programs around what we learn. Genealogists and family historians also reach out to us to learn more about their families.

    • Hands-On Learning - Occasionally collections will be used for hands - on learning experiences for students. Being able to handle and use an old tool can be a valuable learning experience.
